Pet Dental Care

At Broadway Animal Hospital, we believe pet dental care is just as important as your own.

Cat & Dog Teeth Cleaning in Edgewater Chicago, IL

If left to their own devices, disease can develop. Periodontal disease is a serious condition that causes more than pain and discomfort—it can damage your pet’s vital organs if left untreated. Luckily, there’s plenty you can do, the first of which is scheduling a cat or dog teeth cleaning appointment at our animal hospital in Edgewater, Chicago.

A good professional cat or dog teeth cleaning gives your pets a healthy edge. We clean above and below the gumline, taking care to also examine for periodontal pockets, chipped or broken teeth, and other signs of disease. We perform:

  • Scaling and polishing
  • Fluoride treatments
  • Extractions if needed
  • Imaging with extractions to ensure the whole tooth is removed
Safety With Anesthesia
For pet dental care to be effective, we use general anesthesia to sedate your pet. Thorough cleaning and examination requires work below the gumline—a feat we would never accomplish with an alert pet. While there are risks with anesthesia, we take every precaution to ensure your pet is healthy enough to receive the treatment. We perform pre-anesthetic bloodwork, as well as X-rays for senior pets, and EKGs for those with heart issues. Additionally, your pet will receive nerve blocks before and after the procedure for pain management. Please know that your pet is in good hands.
Keep the Momentum Going: At-Home Care
You know the dentist gives you the very best clean, but that doesn’t stop you (or it shouldn’t!) from continuing consistent at-home care. The same is true for your pet. Daily brushing is ideal, and after every dental cleaning, we send you home with a pet dental care kit that includes a toothbrush and toothpaste. We also highly recommend rinses and chews, as daily brushing is sometimes impossible with an uncooperative pet.
